Risk and Compliance Manager

We are seeking a motivated and influential Risk and Compliance Manager to join the Department of Risk, Resilience and Compliance.

About the role

You will be responsible for the development and oversight of the University’s approach to risk management. You will provide assurance to the University’s management boards and governance committees with a range of statutory and regulatory requirements, including ongoing conditions of registration with the Office for Students. This is a new role which offers a real opportunity to shape the way the University thinks about, and delivers, key parts of our organisational control framework.

You will be the central point of contact for all matters relating to Risk Management, providing advice, guidance, training and support across the organisation as required.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Mapping the three lines of defence against strategic risks as part of an assurance framework for reporting to management boards and governance committees that risks are being managed effectively. 
  • Providing assurance that the University remains compliant with the ongoing conditions of registration with the Office for Students, including the development and implementation of the University’s procedures for reporting reportable events.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Good experience of risk identification and management at an institutional level
  • Experience managing risk management software
  • An understanding of the compliance requirements of a major institution operating in the HE sector
  • Diligence and accuracy in their work, with strong organisation skills
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships at a range of levels, influencing others outside their line management chain

The Department of Risk, Resilience and Compliance was launched in January 2023. The Department brings together a number of related assurance functions including operational resilience, risk management, compliance, legal services, data protection, FOI and internal audit. Our expanding team is innovative and dynamic, with a collaborative and holistic approach to enhancing resilience and mitigating risk. We work closely with colleagues across the organisation, providing guidance and support, and we report to management boards and governance committees, providing assurance and recommendations for action.
