This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to become a core part of a team working in the field of low-loss hollow-core optical fibres. 

The project is funded by a major optical fibre producer, Sumitomo Electric Industries, who will be working as a part of the team at the University.  

Within the project there are opportunities for developing the field in numerous ways, including:

  • Identifying novel/modified fibre designs with the potential to outperform current state-of-the-art
  • Deepening understanding of the behaviour of new and existing fibre structures using both theory and experiment
  • Further developing advanced fabrication processes to demonstrate high-performance fibres, including long fibre lengths
  • Demonstrating the lowest-attenuation optical fibre ever reported

This role would suit an imaginative and dynamic researcher with a selection of the following:

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant research area
  • Good working knowledge of optics and photonics
  • Familiar with optical laboratory techniques
  • Understanding of the value of numerical simulations, computer literate

We are seeking a Specialist Technician to join the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering.

This role involves working as part of a team of technicians providing a technical service to both teaching and research activity within the department.

You will provide technical support for preparation and testing of geotechnical and innovative construction materials. Specifically, this will involve testing the physical and chemical properties of soils, earth construction materials, cementous materials (such as cement or lime stabilised materials) and other innovative construction materials.

The technical support involves maintenance and booking/scheduling of laboratory space and equipment, as well as providing specialist advice and practical support to those using the laboratories. You will contribute to the successful delivery of teaching including prepping the laboratories for practical classes and supervising use of equipment. 

About you

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience in a relevant role in a lab based environment
  • Be able to confidently and proactively engage users across all levels including undergraduate, postgraduate and research staff
  • Have sufficient experience in advising on best health and safety practice in the laboratory including review of risk assessments, COSHH forms and the safe use and storage of chemicals

You will receive training on the specific equipment in our laboratories and on the specific processes in our laboratories and around the University.

Experience in testing the engineering properties of soils in a laboratory environment and potentially testing other construction materials in a laboratory or field environment would be a bonus but is not essential.

The primary focus of this role is to work in the Automotive Labs team, providing a technical service to the engine test cells, MSc Automotive courses and to assist with our chassis dyno facility as required.

  • Providing direction, support and guidance as necessary, in line with individuals’ skills and abilities 
  • Monitoring progress against agreed quality and performance criteria 
  • Facilitating effective working relationships between team members 

A secondary aspect of the role will also include technical support to the student teams in the department, including the electric racing car, motorbike, drone & rocket teams – these teams have a high profile, & are often involved in prestigious international competitions.

You may also assist in the aerospace, structural testing and composites fields - full training in these areas will be provided as needed, plus ongoing support from the technical staff already in these areas.

  • Experience or qualifications in a relevant field
  • Served a recognised apprenticeship in a lab, toolroom, workshop or manufacturing environment
  • Post-apprenticeship experience in an automotive environment

Experience in welding (TIG/MIG) is desirable, in order to support the automotive labs, student teams & the wider faculty. Experience of CAD/CAM would be advantageous but isn’t essential.

We currently have a vacancy for a Food & Beverage Assistant. In this role you will be required to ensure that the day to day running of the catering operation is smooth and that customers are provided with a high standard of service at all times. Your responsibilities will include taking customer orders, serving food and drink, working on the tills, stocking food stations and assisting with cleaning and clearing tables and catering areas. The role includes early morning, evening and weekend working on a 5 out of 7 days per week contract (36.5 hours per week).  The weekly shift pattern consists of straight shifts only, no split shifts.

Previous experience of working in the Hospitality industry would be an advantage. You should be a good team worker and be able to be calm and professional in high pressure situations, as it can be extremely busy during peak times.

This role is part of the . The AI4CI Hub is a collaboration between a consortium of seven partner universities (Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Glasgow, UCL and Ulster). 

The Hub’s ambition is to pursue cutting edge research at the intersection between the fields of applied AI and Collective Intelligence across five application domains (Pandemic Resilience, Smart cities, Financial Stability, Health Ecosystems and Environmental Intelligence) and two cross-cutting themes (Human-Centred Design and Infrastructure and Governance). 

Research within each application domain and cross-cutting theme will be pursued by a team of academics, postdocs and PhDs working with academic and non-academic stakeholder partners from relevant sectors: from AI software companies and start-ups to FinTech firms to NHS trusts, city modelling labs and government departments. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a package of work for the Healthcare Ecosystems Theme to explore how novel artificial intelligence based analytical methods can enhance decision-making processes in health care delivery and self-management for conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, anxiety, and depression. Addressing challenges related to data quality, bias, privacy, and scalability will be embedded throughout the project.  

This role will initially be focused on developing and evaluating machine learning and statistical modelling tools to predict and classify disease trajectories using large scale health records databases to answer questions such ‘Can we cluster the typical longitudinal patterns of a disease?’, ‘Do these clusters correlate well to the effectiveness of treatments?’, ‘Can we confidently inform newly diagnosed patient on how their disease will evolve?’, ‘Are there patient groups that are not well served by current clinical practice?’  

About the role:

The successful candidate will work with Dr Theresa Smith and collaborate with Dr Aisling O’Kane and her team at the University of Bristol. You will conduct fundamental research in statistics and machine learning as well as deliver case studies designed with Hub stakeholders. You will also be involved with synthesising and disseminating outputs from relevant work as part of a wider programme of knowledge exchange at the AI4CI hub. You will contribute to Bath’s wider community of interdisciplinary scholars in data science through the and the .

The post is full-time for 2.5 years with a possibility of extension depending on project requirements, to start on or soon after 1st July 2024.

Successful candidates will be interested in researching innovative combinations machine learning, statistics, and data science with a strong commitment to pursuing applied research in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting.

  • Keeping grounds and bin stores clean and tidy at all times
  • Supporting the collection, distribution, storage and recording of linen

  • Completing visual inspections

This role involves working on a 5 over 7 rota. Cleaning is required in some areas at weekends, therefore there is an expectation to work weekends on a rota basis. Weekend rota work requirements apply mainly during the summer peak period. 

Working hours are 9am-5.20pm and the role is based at the University campus in Claverton Down (BA2 7AY).

In addition to the training programme, you will take responsibility for managing our doctoral events and will be involved in some programme delivery. We run networking events, induction sessions, competitions, as well as writing retreats. We’re looking for someone who is able to organise and deliver on many of these activities. Having supervisory experience will also help, as you’ll be responsible for managing staff associated with these events.

Working in a training and development role is exciting as new trends emerge all the time. You will need to be comfortable working in a changing landscape and confident in managing multiple pieces of work at once.

The Bath Centre for Pain Research (BCPR) at the 2023澳门资料大全免费 is the home to a team of interdisciplinary researchers that investigate the effect that pain has on people’s lives. It has a focus on exploring the way psychological and social factors impact on pain, and how this understanding might translate into better ways to manage painful conditions. The core areas of work are in: cognitive processes in pain, social factors, child and family, evidence-based medicine and digital development.

The Centre is leading a multi-institutional consortium (CRIISP) that seeks to better understand how psychosocial mechanisms impact on chronic pain. It will also explore how these factors might work alongside biology, in order to provide a better understanding of pain and how it is managed. The consortium is funded under the Advanced Pain Discovery Platform programme, which is part of a new joint and equal investment of £14 million by UKRI and Versus Arthritis. For UKRI, the initiative is led by the Medical Research Council, with support from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). 

We are seeking to recruit a research associate post to support the programme of work that we are leading on from Bath. It will primarily involve working with large datasets to explore psychosocial factors in the change states and transitions in chronic pain. As the role will require the analysis of existing large multi-wave longitudinal datasets, a good level of understanding of, and familiarity with, appropriate statistical methods will be required. The role may also involve supporting in the data collection of ongoing pain studies. It will require skills and experience in quantitative data analysis.

This role is offered on a part time (29.2 hours per week) fixed term basis with an expected end date of 31/12/2025.

About you 

You will need to take an active part in the work of the consortium including through participation at events and workshops, providing support and advice in keeping with their role and level of appointment, as well as engaging with patient and public focus groups and other stakeholders.

  • A PhD degree in a subject area of direct relevance for the project e.g. psychology.
  • Experience working with large cohort datasets and skilled in advanced data analysis (e.g., longitudinal, multi-wave data).
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant governance issues in health/clinical psychology research.
  • Experimental and/or clinical health research design and methods skills.

The role includes early morning, evening and weekend working on a 5 out of 7 days per week contract (36.5 hours per week). This role is a Term time only role  (12 weeks off) 40 week contract 

Weeks off would typically be:

    • 6 weeks at Christmas, starting first week of University Christmas vacation and running to end of Jan
    • Easter – 2 week period, usually (but not always) week ending Good Friday & week beginning Easter Monday. Follows University vacation for Easter break

Research within each application domain and cross-cutting theme will be pursued by a team of academics, postdocs and PhDs working with academic and non-academic stakeholder partners from relevant sectors. 

About the role

The human-centered design theme has two purposes: first, to integrate an understanding of how humans interact and behave in sociotechnical systems into the design of smart agents for each application domain, and second, to address research questions of when, how, and why smart agents and collective intelligence can create tipping points for collective behaviour change. 

In this role, you will support academics from multiple disciplines to design and conduct research studies that contribute towards our understanding of how people behave and interact with smart agents within socio-technical systems. This means you may also have the opportunity to work with distinguished scholars throughout our academic community at Bath and beyond. 

There is a strong expectation that you will actively contribute to the strong profile of online behaviour and digital technology research work at Bath and its interdisciplinary ethos through participation in the development and publication of research results in major international conferences and journals. You will also be involved with synthesising and disseminating outputs from relevant work as part of a wider programme of knowledge exchange at the AI4CI hub.

We’re looking for a motivated technical specialist to join our team. Our technical team plays a crucial role in enriching the student experience. 

You will work in our student workshop teaching and supervising our undergraduate students. You will provide technical support for both teaching and research activities. You could be making parts for a student racing car one day or working with researchers to build an artificial knee the next. 

You’ll use conventional machine tools (milling machines, lathes, etc) as well as CNC machines for more complex machining requirements. You will contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduates in the use of machine/hand tools and during final year individual research projects. You’ll also provide skills in welding/fabrication in steel, stainless steel and aluminium together with bench fitting and assembly.

You will be required to supervise student activities in the Workshop and carry out inductions to ensure safe working at all times. You'll also offer a training programme for apprentice technicians, supervising their development by setting their workload and training schedule, as well as providing support and general guidance during their studies.

The role is a full time (36.5 hours) position, but we can consider flexible working.

About the role

You will be the first point of contact for all general sports enquiries and will have responsibility for booking and taking payments for facilities, classes, courses, supporting the Reception Manager in implementing the access policy and providing excellent customer service as part of our committed and dedicated Reception team.

You should have experience working with a range of customers, excellent interpersonal and customer care skills as well as sound IT skills to enable you to deliver high standards of service to our students, staff, general public, performance sports partners and visiting athletes.

There are physical elements to the role, including assisting with security incidents and the emergency process when evacuating customers and users safely from the facilities.

This is a part-time position, working an average of 17.5 hours per week (0.48 FTE) over a 3-week rotating rota covering the facility opening hours and business needs. This is an all year-round position, and weekday shifts start at 15:45.

About the role:

As a Domestic Assistant you will be required to clean student kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms in accordance with service level agreements and standards of hygiene and cleanliness. 

Other responsibilities include the setup of student and guest rooms, reporting maintenance requirements and ensuring health and safety within the workplace.

The residences are used by students and external customers and cleaning is required in some areas at weekends, therefore there is an expectation to work weekends on a rota basis. Weekend rota work requirements apply mainly during peak periods. 

You will work 5 days out of 7 and have days off during the week when you are required to work at weekends. The hours for this role are 9am to 5:20pm. 

Previous experience of cleaning work is highly desirable as is experience of working in a hotel or student accommodation environment.

2) You will plan and project manage the School’s submissions to the main accreditation bodies, including AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA as well as programme-level accreditations such as ACCA, CFA etc. 

In fulfilling these functions, you will foster and maintain a regular working relationship with colleagues across the School of Management and with key personnel in the rankings and accreditation bodies.

We deliver activities for policymakers, researchers and practitioners to enable dual learning and original contributions to both research and practice.

This internship role has been designed to provide a varied, busy, and valued role for the intern and the IPR. Main duties will include: 

  • To support the Head of Policy Programmes and Communications and Policy Engagement Manager with the pilot Bath Policy Engagement Academy (BPEA). To support the delivery of policies, activities, and programmes for the academy
  • To work with the Policy Engagement Manager to support the development and launch of the Policy Fellowship Alumni network
  • To proofread policy publications produced in-house, such as Policy Briefs. To produce infographics, when relevant. To help research relevant policy contacts to cascade individual policy publications too.
  • To support the ActNowFilm Project, in partnership with Cambridge Zero. This youth voices global film project will showcase at COP29. Previous films have showcased at COP26, COP27 and COP28. The intern will play a key project management role, and also act as a youth voices representative on the project
  • To carry out research for a variety of live projects.

This is a multinational project with 21 academic and industrial partners across mainland Europe. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (full-time for 2 years) to join Dr. Yixian Sun’s new research group looking at ‘Sustainability Governance of China’s Global Infrastructure Investments’ (GI4S). This innovative research project is funded by the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship. 

This is an exciting opportunity to produce highly impactful research for researchers with a strong interest in environmental governance and sustainable development, and in China’s global engagement. You will join Dr. Sun’s team based in the Department of Social and Policy Science at the 2023澳门资料大全免费 and will collaborate closely with researchers in the International Development group as well as the Earth System Research Governance Centre at Bath. 

The project will develop an ambitious and innovative research programme to advance understanding of China's global influence. The primary goal of the research is to assess China's efforts to promote green development through its overseas engagement and also investigate the environmental and social impacts of Chinese overseas activities in different host contexts (e.g., Indonesia, Pakistan and Bangladesh). 

You will be responsible for conducting high-quality research through in-depth fieldwork (carried out in collaboration with the project’s international collaborators) and using mixed methods on key topics of the research programme including:

  • Initiatives seeking to govern sustainability impacts of Chinese overseas investment
  • Social and environmental impacts of China-financed infrastructure projects
  • Host countries’ policies to attract China’s green investment and its impacts

About the role

You will play a key role in assisting the Room Leader and team in providing high quality childcare and education appropriate to the age and stage of development of the children. You will work to maintain a safe, secure and caring environment.

You will be required to complete tasks line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. A core responsibility is planning and providing safe, appropriate, child-led and adult initiated experiences, activities and play opportunities indoor, outdoor and in out-of-setting contexts, which enable children to develop and learn. 

You will also maintain children’s records and carry out assessments, ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to and implemented in the Nursery. Importantly, you will support the Room Leader acting as a role model in supervising and monitoring Nursery Assistants, casual workers, students and volunteers. 

You should:

  • be a good team player with sound communication and organisation skills
  • have knowledge and understanding of the EYFS curriculum with the ability to support the development of our children
  • have a relevant first aid qualification
  • have relevant qualifications (minimum NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or above)
  • be able to work in a team to observe, assess and plan as a key person
  • be able to produce written documentation to support the progress of individual children, being sensitive to their needs.

We are seeking a development economist to join the Department of Social and Policy Sciences. DSPS is committed to being interdisciplinary, progressive, and impactful in both research and teaching. 

Its academic staff come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds including economics, sociology, politics, anthropology, geography, development studies, social and public policy, social work, and criminology. The Dept is home to the Centre for Development Studies, which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025.

You will be expected to conduct original, rigorous, and internationally significant research in development economics, and to help build our already strong community of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers. Core teaching will contribute to BSc and MSc programmes in International Development with Economics, as well as quantitative methods across a wider range of programmes, including the MSc in Public Policy.

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer with a strong alignment to Power Systems Engineering to provide excellent postgraduate research supervision and deliver high-quality teaching. We are looking for outstanding researchers to enhance our research, join an expanding and ambitious department, shape the technology of the future in a vibrant and inclusive environment, and to engage with plans to grow teaching in this area with strategic partnerships.  

Our electrical power systems research area is part of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems and has a reputation for strong scientific contributions to scalable energy network and market modelling and analyses. We have delivered tools and evidence for the UK Government, the energy regulator and wider industry for introducing new industrial standards, practices, and policies to accelerate the net zero transition. We are at the forefront of energy system data and digitalisation through our engagement with the government’s Energy System Digital Spine project.  We deliver annual Power Markets Training Course to national policy makers outside the UK, in conjunction with Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office and the University of Cambridge.  

We are interested in applicants with core expertise in Power Engineering and a strong focus in the net zero transition. Candidates with a deep understanding of energy markets and/or energy system digitalisation would be advantage. 

You will be expected to contribute to teaching in one or more of the following areas at undergraduate and postgraduate levels: 

  • Power system fundamentals
  • Power system modelling and analyses 
  • Power system operation, protection and resilience
  • Energy markets and regulation

About you

You will have track record in applied power systems engineering and teaching, with the potential to develop a research portfolio. In particular, you should ideally have experience (or potential) in research encompassing power systems.

You will hold a PhD and an undergraduate degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or a very closely related subject. Through your research and teaching, you will be passionate about addressing the global energy and power system challenges and educating the next generation of electronic and electrical engineers. Your duties and responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:

  • ensuring that areas are always cleaned to the highest standards including Changing Rooms, Toilets, Office Spaces, Corridors, Sports Hall, Stairs and General customer areas.
  • maintaining Health and Safety standards using COSHH in line with the recommended instructions. 
  • re-filling all Soaps/Antibacterial liquids/Cleaning agents, Paper Towels and Toilet Rolls.
  • good attention to detail

You may also be required to use machinery, but don’t worry, we will give you all the training you need in order to use it.
